The cathedral’s grounds include a main church, five smaller chapels, the Trai Tim Duc Me Stone Heart (Heart of Our Lady) in the center, and a bell tower (Phuong Dinh). A lake lies in front of the cathedral, and a mountain rises behind it.
On Christmas Day, Phat Diem Stone Cathedral is decorated with a 27-meter-high Christmas tree, featuring 27 tiers covered with twinkling stars and lights from top to bottom. Additionally, the cathedral offers many wonderful activities, such as Christmas Mass, a Vigil Mass, and a Christmas Carol Performance.
Countdown Party at Ninh Binh Walking Street
On December 31st, Ninh Binh locals and travelers gather at the walking street to celebrate the New Year. The street is filled with New Year decorations, and numerous food stalls serve local specialties.
The main highlight of the night is a large music concert, followed by a countdown party and fireworks as the clock strikes the first second of the new year.
Hiking in Mua Cave
Located within the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, Mua Cave is another attraction you should visit in December. The weather is clear and breezy, so admiring the natural scenery of Tam Coc from the Mua Cave viewpoint is more stunning than ever. Be aware that reaching the viewpoint is a bit challenging, as you’ll have to climb nearly 500 stone steps.
