Good to know
Tickets are only available to be directly booked and paid by cash (VND) at the station counters. It’s worth noting that the ticket price is a bargain, so make sure you ask for a discount (at least 20%) before boarding.
Most of the staff can’t speak even basic English, so better get your translator apps ready.
Security is not a good strength of the bus station. Always keep an eye on your luggage, and do not purchase tickets in any place other than the ticket counter.
How to travel from Ninh Binh Bus Station
The bus station doesn’t link to any effective public transport network, but you’ll find private transfers are pretty convenient and cheap.
Taxi
Lots of taxis wait once you step aside from the station. While it’s really difficult to tell which one is reliable, a good tip is to always ask for the total price before getting in. Fair rates start at 11,000 VND per kilometer. Measure the distance on your map, and you’ll get a fair ride.
Motorbike Taxi
A better saving way is to hop on the back of a motor taxi—xe ôm. The clearest sign to see a xe ôm is a local man sitting on his bike outside of the station. Those drivers know the best routes to take you to the hotel and, unfortunately, also know how to scam too. ALWAYS agree on the price (normally 50% cheaper than a taxi) in advance and avoid traveling at night.
