Attend centuries-old festivals

April is the most festive month in Ninh Binh, with more than 10 different festivals taking place across the province.

The Thai Vi Festival is a must if you’d prefer to see an authentic ritual performance of Ninh Binh. Taking place from the 14th to the 16th day of the lunar calendar (end of April) at Thai Vi Temple, this festival is a way to commemorate Tran Thai Tong King, who made a significant contribution to the province back in the 12th century.

Unlike Thai Vi, the Trang An Festival is focusing on promoting Ninh Binh’s tourism. During the festival, hundreds of locals will perform a procession by boat along the Sao Khe River. The procession will pass by stunning grottoes and stop by temples along the way before ending up at Vu Lam Palace—the end of the Trang An boat tour. Trang An festival is held annually on the 18th day of the 3rd lunar month (2nd half of April).

 

Taking Trang An Boat Tours

April is one of the greatest months to take a Trang An boat tour, not only because it collides with the Trang An festival but also thanks to the cool weather.

Starting from Van Lam Pier, a skilled local rower will sail you along the Sao Khe River, exploring the stunning limestone grottoes in the area, like Dark Cave, Light Cave, and Wine Brewing Cave.
